In the Matter of the Adoption of Baby Boy S., Docket No. 128,197 (Unpub. K. Ct. of App. July 3, 2025). The Sedgwick County District Court denied termination of father’s rights (which termination would vitiate the need for his consent to the adoption) because, although he “failed to support Mother during the six months before the child’s birth, he had reasonable cause to do so ‘for a portion’ of that time. K.S.A. 59-2136(h)(1)(D). Mother told father she had miscarried. This provided a “temporary excuse” during the six-month period for the failure to support.
